France

The first Salon des territoires connectés, organized by the Syndicat intercommunal des énergies de la Loire (Siel), attracted a large number of elected representatives and technicians. The challenge of this first meeting was to enable everyone to achieve energy sobriety through digital technology.

The first edition of the Salon des Territoires connectés was, in the opinion of all participants, a resounding success.

At the heart of the Arena Saint-Étienne Métropole in Saint-Chamond, this event initiated by Siel (Syndicat intercommunal des énergies de la Loire) did not miss its appointment with local elected officials and digital professionals.

Monitoring water, air, electricity...

Patricia Chauve, head of the ROC (Réseau des objets connectés), stresses: "We're just the conductor of the orchestra. The aim is to put elected representatives and professionals in touch with each other. "A human connection to provide digital solutions in a wide range of fields.

"Street lighting accounts for a third of a municipality's electricity costs, so it's worth looking into it. The same is true for water, where wastage in the networks averages 30% in France. "And let's not forget indoor air quality, in classrooms for example.

A paradigm shift with artificial intelligence

Thanks to innovative solutions, and today artificial intelligence, for the dynamic 3D realization of the territory, the supervision of land registry has changed era. Siel's partners provide essential expertise to help elected officials and municipal technicians optimize resources.

The use of digital technology must also enable visibility. "One third of rural communes don't have a website," explains Marc Lapalus, president of the Loire rural mayors' association.

Siel's objective is to support all communes in this digital and technological transformation, through proven and affordable solutions. This paradigm shift also goes hand in hand with sustainable development, and energy sobriety is also a concern in the digital domain.

Saint-Chamond, a pilot digital town

This is particularly true of Saint-Chamond, a figurehead (which has been awarded a fifth arobase (and a green one) synonymous with sobriety) and good student of the citizen's Internet. The mayor of Saint-Chamond, Axel Dugua, points out that his municipality has been awarded the Ville Internet label, a distinction that enhances the attractiveness of the region.

The challenge for all those involved in this innovative approach is to create a world that is connected, but sensible and oriented towards sustainable development. In her inaugural speech, Marie-Christine Thivant, President of Siel, emphasized: "We mustn't shy away from looking at what's being done elsewhere to borrow good ideas. "
