France/ Tiercé. Twinning survives between Tiercé and Ozsdola (Romania)
For six days, until July 12, fourteen Hungarians from Romania came to meet friends from Tiercé. The visit was part of the twinning between Tiercé and Ozsdola in Romania.
The Tiercé town council first considered the idea in 2002, when the Maine-et-Loire department was twinned with the judet (department) of Covasna.partement) of Covasna, and Tiercé mayor René Bruneteau had heard that a Romanian town was looking for a French partner, the twinning was born a year later, in 2003.
The Romanian town, a former territory of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, is populated by over 90% inhabitants of Hungarian origin. The majority still consider themselves to be Hungarian, while a growing number hold dual nationality.
As a result of the decision taken by Tiercé's municipal authorities during the previous term of office, the twinning arrangement no longer officially exists. However, human and friendly relations are as strong as ever, thanks to the Ojdula (Ozsdola) Tiercé friendship association.
This year, two newcomers came to Tiercé, staying with local people. The fourteen Hungarian friends discovered part of Brittany through the Gulf of Morbihan. In Tiercé, they visited the Les Potences photovoltaic park and learned about the 3RD'Anjou union, waste sorting and collection. " A wonderful stay," enthuses Patrice, one of the new members of the Tiercé association.
