Last Wednesday, the town hall welcomed the English and French members of the Muzillac-Sheringham twinning committee. Around thirty residents of the English town came to celebrate the twinning's tenth anniversary.

I married a Frenchwoman, and have been coming to Muzillac regularly for thirty years. Then Muzillacais, I even took French nationality four years ago," explains Graham Fenner, president of the twinning association. We've always been received like royalty in Muzillac. I proposed the idea of twinning to Claude Le Duigou, mayor at the time. We launched the idea of twinning in 2004 and, after 10 years, the town officially signed the charter.

Peter Ratcliffe, Mayor of Sheringham, is delighted to be welcomed in Muzillac. It's a privilege to represent Sheringham today. It's a wonderful event, with so many people here to welcome us. I'm very proud. It's exceptional for both communities.

The speeches of both are tinged with English humor: For the signing, there were quite a few prejudices... Particularly about the food," laughs Graham. Jean-Paul Daniel, deputy mayor for culture, and Michel Criaud, mayor, formed a duo to give an English and French version of their speech, recalling the official signing of the twinning in Muzillac on October 4, 2014.

A number of French and English students attended the ceremony, which ended with the playing of the two anthems La Marseillaise and God save the King. The Muzillacs plan to travel to Sheringham in 2025, to celebrate ten years on the English side.
