France/ Douarnenez. The twinning committee visits Germany
The Douarnenez - Husum twinning committee was officially created on November 24, 2023, in the Penn Sardin town. In return, a delegation travelled to Germany from September 20 to 25 to celebrate the anniversary.
The German delegation had concocted a program to discover the town, focusing on two aspects: economic and cultural. During the first, a sardine, an illustration by Douarn artist Marianne Larvol, was pasted on a wall in this town of 25,000 inhabitants.
An official reception was then held in the presence of Mayor Martin King and Margaret Mehdorn, regional delegate for the Franco-German Fonds Citoyen. It was she who had facilitated the rapprochement between our two towns through Claude Rossignol of the Douarnenez tourist office," emphasizes Francis Gloaguen, president of the twinning association.
The three-hour crossing on foot to reach a string of small islands dotted with a dozen dwellings, in the Wattenmeer mud, will have left its mark on Douarnenistes.
During the festive evening on Saturday, Patrice Goyat had a field day with his lyrics about the city of Penn Sardin. Everyone sang along to the song A Douarnenez, on pêche la sardine ", he recounted.
The appointment is made to receive their friends in September 2025. There are lots of things in the pipeline," says Patrice Goyat. Anyone wishing to join the twinning can contact the committee on 06 74 55 46 60. These are extremely warm and dynamic people, who really want to develop the twinning. Don't be afraid of the language barrier - most of them speak French," warns Francis Gloaguen.
