An agreement was signed on Thursday September 26 between the cities of Aix-en-Provence and Masis, Armenia. The highlight of a celebration of Armenian culture that will run until Friday, October 4.

To mark the twinning between Aix-en-Provence and the Masis community of communes, the Armenian Fortnight has been inviting the people of Aix-en-Provence to immerse themselves in the culture of this Caucasian country since Tuesday September 24. Conferences, commemorations and film screenings... the program is rich and varied.

On Thursday September 26, Charles Aznavour was honored at the inauguration of a square in his name in the Allées provençales. This event marks the culmination of a fortnight dedicated to Armenian culture, running until Friday October 4.

Tribute to Missak and Mélinée Manouchian

Local players, international artists and members of the Armenian community... numerous personalities responded to the call for projects, launched a few months ago by the City of Aix-en-Provence. The aim was simple: to celebrate Armenian culture through eclectic events, as part of a new twinning arrangement.

And the program seems to have succeeded: at the Manufacture, the Conservatoire and the École d'Art, film screenings are open to the public. At the town hall, conferences complete the program. And young people are not to be outdone: children are invited to take part in drawing workshops and plays, or to treat their taste buds to an Armenian menu in school canteens.

In the course of the events organized over the past few days, the public has been gathering. Some are simply Armenian art lovers, touched by the oriental notes. Others have come to remember a heavy family heritage. A case in point was the crowd that flocked to the foot of the town hall on Wednesday to pay tribute to the resistance fighters Missak and Mélinée Manouchian, in the presence of composer André Manoukian, who offered a recital. For the occasion, Aix's UDI mayor Sophie Joissains was keen to celebratethe couple's " courage and attachment", seven months after their pantheonization.

While the Quinzaine de l'Arménie symbolizes the "indestructible bond" between Aix and Masis, the town sees the event as the roots of future projects, including the digitization of the town's heritage. the digitization of the Armenian city's heritage and the professional integration of Armenian refugees... The twinning agreement signed this Thursday morning by representatives of the two towns marks the starting point of an incipient sharing.
