On Wednesday October 16, the town of Aude and the Banque Alimentaire de l'Aude signed an agreement to improve food distribution for people in precarious situations.

The City of Narbonne and the Banque Alimentaire de l'Aude join forces to structure solidarity and reinforce the fight against poverty. This partnership, formalized by an agreement on Wednesday October 16, aims to guarantee optimal conditions for the distribution of food aid, both in terms of health and logistics.

Created in 1966, the Banque Alimentaire de l'Aude is a humanitarian association dedicated to fighting hunger and food waste. It collects unmarketable foodstuffs - such as products close to their expiration date or those with labelling errors - and redistributes them to people in difficulty.

To improve the efficiency of this local distribution, the town of Narbonne proposed to the Banque Alimentaire that it open a branch in the commune, an offer enthusiastically accepted by the association.

Premises and subsidies

Under the terms of the agreement, Narbonne will provide premises for food storage and distribution, as well as an operating subsidy for 2024. The town will also encourage volunteer work and citizen participation in the association's activities.

For its part, the Banque Alimentaire de l'Aude is committed to structuring its collection and distribution operations in accordance with standards of decency, ethics and hygiene. It will also provide support for beneficiaries to encourage their social inclusion, while promoting short circuits with local producers and suppliers.
