As part of the 6th "Rencontres roumaines", the Millau-Plopeni twinning committee invites you to four events.

This Friday, December 1, Romania's national holiday, moviegoers are invited to the Cinémas de Millau to discover the film "N'attendre pas trop de la fin du monde" (Don't expect too much from the end of the world), directed by Radu Jude, a leading figure in Romanian cinema. The film follows Angela as she scours the city of Bucharest for the casting of a workplace safety advertisement commissioned by a multinational corporation. This "Alice in Wonderland of the East" encounters in her exhausting day big businessmen and real-life stalkers, rich and poor, people with severe disabilities and sex partners, her digital avatar and another Angela from a forgotten old film and more.

On Friday December 8, just a few months before the Olympic Games, the committee is proposing a screening of the film "Nadia Comaneci, la gymnaste et le dictateur". Also at the Cinémas de Millau, this documentary traces the incredible destiny of Nadia Comaneci, a Romanian gymnast who lived under the Ceausescu dictatorship and, at the age of 14, achieved the perfect score, the first 10 in the history of the Olympic Games, in Montreal in 1976. This incredible sporting career was to go hand in hand with another battle, until she fled Romania in 1989: the battle to decide her own life and destiny, despite the crushing grip of a tyrannical dictator. The twinning committee is privileged to welcome Andreea Chelaru, a former gymnast at the same national school that prepared Nadia Comaneci for her multiple performances. Andreea will be giving her personal account and discussing with the audience the difficult conditions involved in preparing for the various competitions.

A date postponed to March 2024

From Friday, December 22 to Saturday, January 13, 2024, in the MJC/CREA exhibition space, you can discover the exhibition ofsome twenty photographs by Hugues Cayrade, taken during a trip to Romania România, Bucarest-Carpates-Sibiu". The vernissage takes place this Friday, December 22 at 6:30 p.m.

The fourth event, scheduled for the end of the year, has had to be moved to March 29 and 30, 2024. For the occasion, Millau will welcome the group "Le Petit Mish Mash", born of the encounter between a gypsy accordionist from Bucharest, a cymbalum player trained at the conservatory in Chisinau, Moldavia, and a clarinet and flute player. The program includes a musical workshop, conference and concert, so book your place now for these 2 days! We'll tell you more in a few months.
