Congo/ Public health: hygiene equipment to combat epidemics
Through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Global Fund has provided the government with hygiene and sanitation materials for infection prevention and control.
Comprising, among other items, DASRI garbage can bags, articulated trapeze brooms and gauze for dusting floors in hospitals and medical environments, bleach, pedal bins, manual backpack sprayers and plastic boots, the donation was received by the Minister of Health and Population, Jean Rosaire Ibara. This donation was received by the Minister of Health and Population, Jean Rosaire Ibara. Handing over the equipment to the government, Adama Dian-Barry, UNDP Resident Representative in Congo, noted that the donation would help to clean up the environment and water." The Global Fund is joining forces with the entire United Nations system in the Congo to make a batch of sanitation and hygiene equipment available today," she said.
In addition to the UNDP/Global Fund donation, Unicef, the World Health Organization, UNFPA and the United Nations System Coordination have also offered equipment to the government. According to Adama Dian-Barry, these various donations testify to the solidarity of UN system agencies with the affected populations in the Brazzaville departments, notably the sub-prefecture of Ile Mbamou, and the department of Congo-Oubangui. " In the hope that this equipment will be useful to you in prevention and care, we encourage all partners to join the dynamic already in place", concluded the UNDP representative.
The Minister of Health and Population, speaking on behalf of the stricken population, praised the contribution made by the agencies of the United Nations system in the Congo. "After all the expectations, today is the realization. I must confess that the people were almost abandoned in their villages. We sent teams to Mossaka ... Our aim is to put a smile back on the faces of these people, and each of us needs to understand that in times of epidemic, these are the attitudes we adopt. We're going to deploy everything you've given us in the way of communication media, and make sure that the materials we receive are transported to the towns as soon as possible", said Pr Jean Rosaire Ibara.
Abdourahamane Diallo, resident coordinator of UN agencies in the Congo, reiterated his commitment to supporting the government's many efforts to combat the cholera epidemic. "This morning, we are here to illustrate this solidarity by handing over some equipment, a little material and a lot of communication media. Communication media are very important in preventing the disease. This is just a small contribution, but we're going to continue to mobilize. In addition to the UN system, we are also mobilizing multilateral and bilateral partners who are here. We're monitoring the epidemic on a daily basis, and we're confident that there will be other goodwill contributors to support your efforts," he reaffirmed.
