On January 20 in Brazzaville, Arlette Soudan-Nonault, Minister for the Environment, Sustainable Development and the Congo Basin, launched an environmental training workshop involving fifty national players.

Organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in partnership with the French Ministry for the Environment, the French Development Agency (AFD) and other partners, the training session focused on the theme:"feasibility, method and tools for the development of biodiversity certificate and payment for environmental services projects".

The aim is "to understand the theoretical fundamentals of these mechanisms, to analyze practical cases, to assess their territorial, national and regional scales, and to formulate concrete proposals to strengthen current or future projects ", explained the AFD. Carine Zélo Abibi, National Director of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Congo , took the opportunity to reiterate her organization's commitment to the mobilization of funds.

"WWF is fully aware of the constant need for capacity building in the field of innovative financing mechanisms for biodiversity. In this respect, WWF, in collaboration with its partners, will contribute to mobilizing resources and seeking opportunities in order to sustainably support capacity building in this field", he asserted.

Divided into two sessions, from 21 to 23 for the first and from 26 to 28 for the second, this work will enable participants "to gain an in-depth understanding of the ins and outs of PES projects or biodiversity certificates", indicated the Minister of the Environment.

"The overall aim of the training sessions is to build the capacity of Biodev 2030 project stakeholders in the areas of payments for environmental services and biodiversity certificates, so that they have the information and skills they need to design, implement and monitor the projects. the design, implementation and objective critique of PES and biodiversity certificate pilot projects, particularly in the ETIC territory, which has been selected by the Biodev 2030 project to host the pilot projects", she added.

Officially launched in 2021 in the Republic of Congo, the Biodev 2030 project will also support stakeholders involved in innovative financing mechanisms for biodiversity. The project is currently running in fifteen countries.
