In Brazzaville, the 1st Saturday in September was devoted to the ongoing operation to clean out drains and gutters, sweep arteries, raise awareness among local residents and warn pre-collectors who are in the habit of dumping waste outside transit areas.

To comply with the government circular, the Ministry of Urban Sanitation, Local Development and Road Maintenance mobilized sanitation NGOs, religious denominations and other citizens and residents on September 6. On the banks and in the Madoukou Tsékélé collector, for example, the "Salubrité sans frontière" and "Congo propre" associations mobilized their members. With sweeping equipment in hand, they cleaned the verges and the collector between rue Mbochi and avenue de France.

Supported by machines mobilized by the sanitation department, members of the Association des jeunes éveillés straddled the Avenue des Trois Martyrs and Rue Lénine in Moungali. Albayrak, Brazzaville's main waste collection operator, had deployed its technicians in the area.

Marie-Claire Bouanga, head of district 42, warns those pre-collectors of household waste who are in the habit of dumping it in the Mfoa collector, in violation of the ban posted on the guard rails. "Those caught throwing garbage into the Mfoa should not be surprised. They will be severely punished so that they cannot return", she warned, adding that the installation of signs welded to the railings by Minister Juste Désiré Mondelé, at the launch of the operation to clean up the drains in Brazzaville, has reduced the frequency of garbage dumping in Mfoa.

In Ouenzé, in the5th arrondissement, members of the Liloba Church were hard at work on avenue de la Tsiémé crossing rue Mbochi. Led by their leader Olsen Elion, they cleaned the gutters and swept the streets under the slogan "Eglise de réveil Liloba, avec l'Etat congolais pour une ville propre. Salongo obligatory". At the Zanga dia ba Ngombe collector, in arrondissements 1 Makélékélé and 2 Bacongo, sanitation was provided by theNGO "Salubrité hygiène", under the slogan "Every gesture counts for a healthy environment in the Republic of Congo".

This was a source of great satisfaction for Roger Christian Itoua, Sanitation Adviser to the Minister responsible, who called on Brazzavillois to do more to promote cleanliness. "People need to get involved and respect the instructions issued by the Ministry through the sanitation department. The pre-collection operators have been trained, and the Ministry continues to train them via the Sanitation Department, where they are shown where they should go. where the Albayrak company is responsible for emptying the various bins", recalled the Minister's advisor.
