On May 2, to mark the first Saturday of the month, Juste Désiré Mondelé, Minister of Urban Sanitation, Local Development and Road Maintenance, presented garbage bins to a number of Brazzaville's Centres de Santé Intégré (CSI).

Newly reappointed Juste Désiré Mondelé seems to be breathing new life into the city sanitation operation scheduled for the first Saturday of every month. This May 2, particular emphasis was placed on sanitizing health establishments, notably the Moukondo, Jane Vialle and Poto-Poto CSIs, which were the first to benefit. The work involved cleaning the sites, disinfecting the areas, painting and providing waste collection equipment.

The initiative was welcomed by Sylvia Makosso Ngakabi, administrator-mayor of arrondissement 4, Moungali, who pointed out that the operation was in line with the national sanitation policy introduced in 2018. She urged the population to take ownership of this initiative to guarantee a healthy environment. After all, isn't it said that a healthy body in a healthy environment?

On the beneficiaries' side, Minister Juste Désiré Mondelé's action did not go unnoticed. The chief physician of the Poto-Poto health district expressed his satisfaction, reminding us that hygiene is an essential lever for disease prevention.

Justifying his initiative, the Minister of Urban Sanitation, Local Development and Road Maintenance pointed out that what makes it special is that it is being carried out jointly with the Ministry of Health and Population. "As far as the Ministry is concerned, we've decided to focus the first Saturdays of the month on very specific thematic issues, and for the time being we're concentrating on health issues. So we've launched an appeal to all our collaborators, wherever they may be, to take ownership of the integrated health centers and many other hospital centers, because the health of the population is a priority for us.because hygiene is the first medicine", said Juste Désiré Mondelé.

The aim is to achieve a lasting improvement in reception and hygiene conditions in health centers. In addition to this one-off activity, Juste Désiré Mondelé called for the involvement of all stakeholders (public and private administrations, Congolese citizens and residents, etc.).es, Congolese citizens and foreign residents), to make sanitation a daily commitment and not limited to dedicated days.

"Today, we plan to sanitize the premises, to apply a coat of paint, but also to try to disinfect where necessary, with the support of the hygiene services of the Ministry of Health and Population. We have also donated garbage cans for these sites. It's an operation that we really want to deepen in terms of healthcare environments", explained the Minister. He also announced his intention to strengthen the technical and logistical capacities of local authorities, in particular borough councils, with a view to extending sanitation efforts to neighborhoods and rural areas.
