Congo/Pointe-Noire: vulnerable households receive additional social benefits

Accompanied by a number of local authorities, the Minister of Social Affairs and Humanitarian Action, Irène Marie Cécile Mboukou Kimbatsa, officially launched the payment of supplementary social allowances (ASA) to 7778 vulnerable households in Pointe-Noire on June 24.

The main aim of the project is to provide emergency assistance to households affected by the health and economic crisis caused by covid-19, and to increase access to productive social safety nets for vulnerable households and young people.

"Among other specific objectives, this project aims to extend the Lisungi program for the recovery and strengthening of the non-constructive social protection system, and to ensure the productive inclusion of vulnerable young people aged 18 to 35. The project covers the departments of Brazzaville, Pointe-Noire, Kouilou, Niari, Lékoumou, Pool, Plateaux, Sangha and Likouala. It aims to support 40,000 chronically poor households, 8,000 elderly and disabled people, 40,000 young people seeking self-employment and 5,000 young people wishing to learn a trade.to learn a trade", said Antoine Regis Ngakegni, coordinator of the social protection and productive inclusion of young people project.

For her part, the Minister of Social Affairs and Humanitarian Action noted that this ceremony marks the relaunch of a commitment of very high social significance made by the government as part of the implementation of the 2023-2026 Action Plan of the national social action policy. This payment program is part of measures to mitigate the adverse effects of rising fuel and food prices on the population of Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire.

"It is against this backdrop that the government has made available to the Ministry of Social Affairs, Solidarity and Humanitarian Action an initial tranche of2 billion CFA francs to support 17,778 vulnerable households, including 10,000 in Brazzaville and 7,778 in Pointe-Noire.To the beneficiaries in Pointe-Noire, I sincerely hope that this social aid will alleviate some of their suffering, and I invite them to make good use of it", she declared.

This operation follows the one in Brazzaville on June 12. Each household will receive 100,000 FCFA through the Postal Bank.
