Chad: validation of the Sustainable Livestock Development Policy
The Minister of Livestock and Animal Production, Pr Abderahim Awat Atteib, chaired the validation workshop for Chad's National Policy for the Sustainable Development of Livestock at the National Library on Tuesday January 28, 2025.
The workshop, which was attended by a number of distinguished guests including the Minister of Agricultural Production and Industrialization, Mr. Keda Balla, aims to put in place a new livestock development policy, adapted to the current and future contexts, taking into account opportunities and trends. For the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Dr Adam Hassan Yacoub, who is also Inspector General of the Ministry of Agriculture, the holding of this meeting marks a stage in a long process of reflection which began in since March 2022, which should enable the Government of the Republic, through the Ministry in charge of Livestock, to draw up documents outlining the prospects for the sustainable development of livestock farming in Chad. Opening the proceedings, Chad's Minister of Livestock, Pr Abderahim Awat Atteib, emphasized that the "yesterday, today and tomorrow" vision offered his department an opportunity to jointly reflect on their past, in order to draw lessons for the future.The "yesterday, today and tomorrow" vision provides an opportunity for his department to jointly reflect on the past to learn from it, make in-depth analyses of the present to identify errors, failures and shortcomings, and build a better future for the livestock sector. Pr Abderahim Awat Atteib urged participants to work with great technical and scientific rigor so that these documents can meet real needs on the ground and are in line with the objectives of the President of the Republic's Five-Year Political Program 2024-2029. On behalf of the Government, the Minister in charge of Livestock thanked the technical and financial partners for their constant support to the livestock sector, and in particular the Swiss Cooperation through PREPAS and IFAD through RePER, whose contributions made the organization of this workshop possible. The strategic documents are based on five axes, namely Creation of a legal and institutional environment conducive to the sustainable development of livestock farming; Research-Development and dissemination of knowledge; Increasing, diversifying and adding value to animal production; Sustainable improvement of animal health and hygiene of animal products; and Capacity building of stakeholders.
