Chad: UNDP strengthens Barh El Gazel peace committees
Equipment to prevent and manage conflicts.....
In a move aimed at consolidating peace and social cohesion in the province of Barh El Gazel, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) handed over equipment to peace committees in the province's four departments on January 13.
The ceremony, presided over by the provincial governor, Abdelaziz Tchanglang Tokama, took place in the presence of administrative and local authorities and civil society.
Concrete support for peace
The equipment donated, including motorcycles, chairs, sound kits and teaching aids, will enable the peace committees to strengthen their capacity to :
- Prevent conflict: by conducting awareness-raising and mediation activities within communities.
- Manage conflict: by intervening rapidly and effectively in the event of a crisis.
- Promote reconciliation: by fostering dialogue and mutual understanding between different communities.
Narré NGamada, UNDP representative, emphasized the importance of this support: "We want these committees to be strong, autonomous and operational. This equipment should enable them to successfully carry out their peace-building mission."
A strong commitment from the authorities
The governor of Barh El Gazel province welcomed the UNDP initiative and reaffirmed the authorities' commitment to preserving peace and security in the region. "Peace is a precious asset that we must all preserve. These materials are an important tool for achieving this goal", he declared.
Abdelaziz Tchanglang Tokama also called on the members of the peace committees to make good use of the equipment, and to work closely with the local authorities.
A contribution to stability in Chad
This initiative is part of efforts by the Chadian government and its partners to strengthen peace and stability in the country. By providing peace committees with the necessary resources, the UNDP is helping to build community resilience and prevent conflict.
