Canada/Tracadie asks residents to conserve drinking water
The Regional Municipality of Tracadie, New Brunswick, announces temporary restrictions on the use of drinking water due to drought.
The following actions are now prohibited:
- washing vehicles outside of professional stations equipped with water-saving devices, with the exception of professional vehicles subject to sanitary or technical imperatives;
- filling existing private swimming pools for family use after emptying, as well as additional filling;
- boat washing, with the exception of professional boats subject to sanitary or technical requirements;
- sprinkler and drip watering of lawns, public and private green spaces and ornamental gardens;
- washing or watering terraces and private driveways;
- watering sports fields, golf courses, nurseries and public gardens;
- washing public roads.
The restrictions are in effect immediately to preserve the drinking water supply in neighborhoods connected to the municipal network.
The measures are scheduled to run until September 30, but may change between now and then, depending on the state of the groundwater table, say municipal authorities.
Anyone refusing to comply with these measures is liable to a fine, they add.
