Canada/Three-weekly winter garbage collection in Shawinigan
The City of Shawinigan announced on Wednesday that it will begin collecting waste every three weeks starting in January.
The citizens of Shawinigan are invited to sort more of their residual materials in order to adapt to the reduction in waste collection frequency that has been announced by the municipality for the beginning of 2025.
The Ville de Shawinigan indicates that the new collection schedule will be available around mid-December. The new schedule will not begin at the same time in all sectors.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, Shawinigan mayor Michel Angers states that this change is intended to reduce [citizens'] dependence on landfill, and to reduce the city's ecological footprint.
It also states that this change is necessary to encourage the sorting of residual materials.
The City of Shawinigan is therefore encouraging residents to further reduce their waste production by participating in composting and recycling. Collection for both types of residual material remains unchanged.
