The Parish of Plessisville and the City of Plessisville will become one on January 1. The amalgamated town will be known as the Ville de Plessisville.

The Minister of Municipal Affairs, Andrée Laforest, made the announcement on Wednesday. In a press release, Québec explained that this followed a voluntary and consensual approach by the two municipal entities.

The mayors of the two current municipalities, Pierre Fortier and Jean-François Labbé, will take it in turns to assume the role of mayor. Each month, one of them will act as mayor, and the other as deputy mayor.

As for the municipal councillors, they will merge to create the new municipal council of the Town of Plessisville, until the next municipal elections on November 2, 2025.

Arthabaska MP Eric Lefebvre says this is excellent news.

Now we're talking about the bigger Plessisville, the new municipality of nearly 10,000 inhabitants. We're looking ahead to the development of the town of Plessisville.

The Ville de Plessisville, a hub of the MRC with major infrastructures, and the Municipalité de la Paroisse de Plessisville both offer numerous services, which will be optimized. Ultimately, the whole community will benefit from this merger, and I'm delighted about that," says Andrée Laforest in a press release.

The new town will receive financial assistance from Quebec City to cover expenses incurred by the merger.
