Canada/Chazel to get its own library and youth center
The residents of Chazel, Abitibi-Ouest, will soon have access to a municipal library and a youth center. The two new services will be housed in one of the premises of the community center built a few years ago.
The municipality has received $57,000 in financial assistance from the MRC Abitibi-Ouest, as part of its policy to support structuring projects. This will enable the municipality to carry out a project valued at over $63,000.
The project aims to improve the quality of life of taxpayers of all ages, and to provide the municipality with a rich cultural environment.
A quote from Lamine Bendjazia, General Manager of the Municipality of Chazel
Our community hall was built four years ago," continues Mr. Bendjazia. We have a really beautiful hall that's worth its weight in gold. So, we're going to integrate the project into the community hall so that everyone can enjoy it.
A family-friendly youth centre
The Chazel youth center will have the particularity of targeting a wider audience than just teenagers.
We're going to try to create something for the whole family, for people of all ages. They'll be able to take advantage of different computer technologies, board games, a rest area, workshops and so on. It's really for the families of Chazel, not just the young people," says Lamine Bendjazia.
These new services will add to those already offered to the population at the community center.
These include a large party room and a large kitchen. The community center also has four smaller rooms. One room is used as a church. Another is used by senior citizens for crafts, weaving, etc. There's a third room that's used as a church. A third is used as a sports hall. And here, we're going to fit out a fourth room for the library and youth centre," explains Lamine Bendjazia.
The Municipality of Chazel hopes to open its new library and youth centre in May 2025.
