The Municipality of Caplan plans to invest some $2 million to bring the John Lapointe Sports Center up to date.

The infrastructure, built in 1985, requires modernization of the boards and concrete slab.

The players' rooms will be revamped, access to the building will be reviewed and there is a possibility of installing a mezzanine.

Quebec would cover 65% of the renovation costs.

The project has been submitted to the provincial PAFIRSPA program.

A response is expected within the next few months.

The elected officials wanted to keep the existing building rather than opt for a new one.

The arena is functional in winter and used in summer by the day camp.

The municipality would also like to develop its sports facilities.

"It's a building that was built by volunteers and has a great sense of belonging to the municipality. It's now time to bring it up to date and do some work to make it much more accessible and to offer more activities on the site," says Mayor Lise Castiloux.
