Canada/A first sustainable development action plan in Sainte-Ursule

The Municipality of Sainte-Ursule has adopted a sustainable development action plan that addresses the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, drinking water and biodiversity.

The plan will guide the decisions of the municipal council for the next five years. Citizens were invited to learn about the document and its actions during a presentation held on August 18 at the Jacques-Charette Community Centre.

"Climate change is one of the biggest issues of our time. The Municipality wants to participate fully in the effort to reduce GHGs in order to preserve the quality of life of citizens and ecosystems. All of this was done in accordance with the steps of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' Partner for Climate Protection program.

"It is a great source of pride to see our municipalities take leadership in climate action. It brings coherence to territorial development when the community gets involved, whether it's citizens, businesses, farmers or municipalities," said Karine Langlais, coordinator of local and sustainable development at the SADC of the Maskinongé RCM.

The citizens of the municipality are invited to send their comments by September 19, 2021. The final plan will be adopted by the municipal council in October. The final plan is available for consultation on the municipality's website.
