Côte d'Ivoire/Low-cost textbooks available for Tabou sixth graders
Lower-cost textbooks are being made available to sixth-graders at the Lycée moderne Barouadjéhi Valentin in Tabou and the collège privé IGET Banné, as part of the "Bourse nationale du manuel scolaire (BONAMAS)", a loan-rental scheme initiated by the Ivorian government as part of the implementation of the C2D (Contrat de désendettement et de développement) debt reduction and development contract.
To obtain the textbooks, each interested student must register on a digital platform and pay the sum of 10,000 FCFA, together with a receipt to be printed. This receipt, together with an information sheet filled in by the parent, will entitle him/her to a kit of eight textbooks in French, English, Education for Human Rights and Citizenship (EDHC), French and English. (EDHC), history-geography, mathematics, physics-chemistry, life and earth sciences (SVT), and information and communication technology.
Beneficiaries are required to take good care of their books and return them in good condition at the end of the school year, at the risk of a penalty of 2,000 FCFA per textbook in the event of loss or destruction.
The Ministry of National Education and Literacy is offering the opportunity to acquire these textbooks at a lower cost, to relieve the burden on pupils and their parents, and make life easier for teachers.
Pedagogical inspectors for general secondary education at the San Pedro Pedagogy and Continuing Education Office presented the BONAMAS tool to administrative staff and teachers at Lycée moderne Barouadjéhi Valentin de Tabou and collège privé IGET Banné, at a workshop held on September 25 at the Lycée moderne Barouadjéhi Valentin de Tabou.
