Benin/Agriculture: PADAC opens new work sites in the Hills
As part of its tour in the department of Collines, the Project to Support the Agricultural Development of Collines (PADAC), under the leadership of its coordinator, Bertin Tamègnon, handed over sites for the construction of new community infrastructure and visited old sites under construction in the communes of Dassa Zoumè, Ouessè Wogoudo and Savè, Thursday, Friday and Monday.

The delegation made up of the project's technical managers, representatives of decentralized State services operating in the Collines department, to whom the project was delegated, and representatives of the local authorities were invited to attend the meeting. The delegation made up of the project's technical managers, representatives of decentralized State services in the Hills department, in addition to representatives of town halls at each stage, handed over the construction site of two sheds at the Kpakpa Agbagoulè market in the district of Léma in Dassa.
The head of the district, Justin Vègba, was delighted with the realization of a project that will relieve many users of a market that serves the villages of Minifi, Akoba, Adourékoman, Erokoya and Kabolé.
Milk cheese sellers on the side of the interstate national road, on the edge of the village Moumoudji, also welcomed the coordinator Tamègnon and his delegation who handed over the construction site of the two sheds from which they benefited from PADAC.
According to the person in charge of monitoring and evaluation of the project, Zakari Orou, "it is an action proposed by the mayor of Dassa to relieve the beneficiaries whose activity generates income that ensures the autonomy of women who are mostly Fulani".
Also in the municipality of Dassa, PADAC handed over the rehabilitation site of the Odo Otchèrè water reservoir to the company in charge of the work in the district of Kèrè.
According to the person in charge of agricultural investments for the project, Adétutu Yebadokpo, it will be a question of restoring the basin to its initial capacity with an additional volume of water" (from 60,000 m3 to 75,000 m3 after intervention).
Mr Yebadokpo also announces "a downstream development on 6 ha for swamp and fish farming with fish ponds and watering troughs for cattle herds in transit".
One of the particularities of the investment on this site is that the water pumping and distribution system operates on solar energy with an autonomy that reduces operating costs and the risk of abandonment by the operators.
It is one of the biggest projects undertaken by PADAC during its current tour with an estimated cost of 269 million, made available by AFD. The project coordinator, Bertin Tamègnon, is delighted with it. For him, "this long-planned action fits perfectly into the plans of PADAC, a purely agricultural project. It will ensure total water control to help the actors work even during the off-season".
It is even an action with an international dimension, according to the coordinator, who announces that the crops of the farmers of Odo Otchèrè are sold in the markets of several other communes of the department such as Savalou and Glazoué.
In Ouessè, the delegation visited the construction site of a storage warehouse for agricultural products of 1000 tons being built in Ayétoro in the district of Toui.
According to PADAC technicians, "the work is progressing normally". However, they made some observations which the company will have to take into account between now and the provisional acceptance of the work.
Cap has been put on kilibo where sites have been handed over to companies for the construction of infrastructure to modernize the central market, a butcher's shop and a beef slaughter area. The contractual deadline being six months, the head of the district said he was "very excited to have strong and judicious achievements to his credit soon", thanks to the financial support of the Agence française pour le développement, AFD.
The commune of Savè also welcomed the delegation of coordinator Bertin Tamègnon on Monday afternoon. It was Mayor Denis Oba Chabi himself who received the PADAC at his office before the field visit started with the cattle market.
This market, the largest in the Collines department, according to the president of the livestock producers, no longer effectively meets the needs. This is why PADAC has validated its extension and development.
The delegation, under the enlightened eye of the head of the technical department of the town hall, handed over the site to the company that was to carry out the work planned to be completed within six months.
Also in Savè, PADAC handed over the site for the construction of a beef slaughter area in Kaboua. According to the PADAC coordinator, "it is a project that was initiated a long time ago that is finally being carried out".
The head of the district Hermane Olou is delighted. He said he was happy that the outcome is his mandate. Mr. Olou made a commitment to work to ensure that the work is carried out in good conditions.
The last stage of the tour in Savè is marked by the handover of the site for the construction of a slaughter area equipped with an autonomous water station in Okéwo.
The tour will continue until Thursday in the three other communes of the department, namely Glazoué, Savalou and Bantè.
