Many seniors are still lost when it comes to new technologies and the Internet. In Wavre, young people are training them for the time being. These are student jobs organised as part of the "Summer of Solidarity" operation.

Aymane is involved in the project: "It's really very rewarding. We were born with a mobile phone in our hand. All this seems normal to us, but not to Huguette, whom I accompany for two mornings. I answer her questions. For example, at 84 years old, she has difficulties with Skype and I try to explain to her how it works, which now allows her to communicate with her son. I also showed her how to find her bus schedule."

Two desks over, Emeline, 21, answers Bernard's questions. He has a mini-computer that he has never used before. In just one hour, they have already been able to get to know each other and discuss a series of questions such as how to check the weather online or print photos stored on the hard drive.

Some of the participants only have very basic knowledge. Others are already more advanced, like Anne-Marie, 78, who has a Facebook account and has just received a tablet: "I can count on Yassine to help me see things more clearly. I can count on Yassine to help me see things more clearly. Until now, I've been using a lot of functions, but often very badly. I'm really pleased to have this exchange. It's really great to be introduced to all these technologies!"

For Antoine Ramet of the social cohesion department of the city of Wavre, this internet coaching not only meets a demand from the elderly but also allows the skills of the young people who take care of them to be valued.

The courses organised until 15 July are fully booked, but it is still possible to withdraw and other courses will be offered. Information is available via the email address: cohesionsociale@wavre.be or by telephone on 010/23.04.58
