Belgium/Operation Cap 48: "handitourism" in the spotlight
This week, Marianne Périlleux and Walid highlight Opération Cap 48 by exploring handitourism, which combines "handicap" and "tourism".
In this episode dedicated to accessibility, our presenters welcome Cédrine Delforge, coordinator of theASBL Access-i, and Cédric Vandermot from Spin Leisure Park, a wakeboarding enthusiast who strives to make wakeboarding accessible to all.
Access-i, the portal for information on the accessibility of tourist sites
Cédrine Delforge is coordinator ofAccess-i. This association works with experts to assess the level of accessibility of tourist sites, and supports operators on the basis of current regulations. It is also a digital platform. The idea is to be transparent about the level of accessibility and avoid unpleasant surprises for visitors, to help them!
Thanks to a color code, people with special needs are informed about the place they want to visit:
- Green: accessible to all.
- Orange: recommended to be accompanied by a third party.
- White: too many peculiarities making accessibility difficult to assess.
Tourist sites are evaluated for 7 disability families.
The situation in Wallonia is improving, and Cédrine Delforge is delighted: "Thanks to the Walloon investment plan, many tourist attractions are benefiting from subsidies designed to optimize their infrastructures.
As a result, 75 infrastructures have now been certified by Access-i, encouraging news for people with special needs.
