Belgium/Grand Hôpital de Charleroi gives mobility tips
Grand Hôpital de Charleroi didn't expect such a mess on the roads when all the services at the Viviers site in Gilly came on stream on November 25. "These difficulties far exceeded our forecasts", explains the hospital.
On Monday, all roads around the hospital site were blocked, with many patients and staff arriving late. On Tuesday, the situation improved but remained complicated, as the indications given by the Grand Hôpital de Charleroi had not yet percolated through to all Viviers staff and visitors. "Levels -2 and -3 are reserved for staff. By 7:30, everything was full. We had indicated this cut-off time and asked staff members to head for the parking lot on the Saint-Joseph site, 800 metres away. These are new habits to get used to. As for patients, they can park on level -1 and there are enough spaces in the outside parking lot. But queues have built up because patients don't yet know exactly where they're supposed to park, so they're finding out and we're showing them the way, which takes a bit of time," explains Pierre Jacmin, Director of the Information Systems-Technology Department at Grand Hôpital de Charleroi, in charge of security. "Management also points out that both entrances to the Les Viviers site are now open to the public.
These indications of mobility bore fruit this Wednesday morning. Traffic flowed smoothly during the morning rush hour. The measures in place will be evaluated and potentially adapted.
