Belgium/Genappe: an almost 100% local jobday for local jobs
A jobday organized by a municipality, for jobs in municipal services! This is no ordinary initiative. It's certainly original, given that most job fairs also include companies based in the region. The initiative comes directly from the commune of Genappe, in Walloon Brabant. The Forem is the second line of support.
On Friday, for the first time, the heads of several departments and the CPAS were able to talk directly to jobseekers. And Genappe's initiative was clearly a success, with around a hundred applicants in attendance. A godsend for jobseekers, who are increasingly inclined to find the right job close to home. And a source of satisfaction for the municipality of Genappe, which is looking for around ten jobs in various departments by 2024. Several employees and workers will soon be retiring. They will need to be replaced, as several department heads explain in the attached audio report.
What's more, some departments, such as Works, have evolved over the years. For example, since the banning of the most environmentally harmful herbicides, more hands are needed to mow or eliminate weeds on the commune's vast territory. Genappe covers almost 90 km² and has just passed the 16,000 inhabitant mark.
