Algeria/National Security: national blood donation campaign launched

A national blood donation campaign organized by the Direction générale de la sûreté nationale (DGSN) in collaboration with the Agence nationale du sang (ANS) and the Fédération algérienne des donneurs de sang (FADS) got underway in Algiers on Monday.

The campaign, which was kicked off by Police Inspector General Salma Madi, Director of Health, Social Action and Sports Activities, is part of theactivities, is part of the 18th edition of the three blood donation campaigns (international, Maghrebian and national) organized each year by the DGSN.

Police Superintendent Sofiane Zoughri, Head of the Bureau des expertises médicales at the Direction de la santé, de l'action sociale et des activités sportives, explained that the main aim of the three-day campaign "is to provide public hospitals with as many blood bags as possible to save human lives".

The agents, personnel and managers of the Sûreté Nationale "have become accustomed to taking part in such campaigns, the aim of which is to ensure the availability of this vital substance", he said.

To ensure the success of this humanitarian operation, Mr. Zoughri affirmed that the DGSN, in collaboration with the organizations concerned, "has mobilized all material and human resources and set up blood collection centers that comply with standards at police headquarters, in order to preserve the health of donors".

For her part, ANS Director Houria Touafdit stressed "the need to organize blood donation campaigns, particularly within the national security forces, with a view to regularly supplying hospitals with this vital substance".

For his part, FADS President Abdelmalek Sayeh emphasized "the need to anchor the culture of solidarity campaigns within society", praising "the work accomplished by the national security services in the context of blood donation operations".
