Vietnam/Month of action for a safe cyberspace for women and girls
A meeting organized as part of Action Month for Gender Equality and Prevention of Gender-Based Violence 2025 was held on the morning of November 28 in Dà Lat, Lâm Dông province (Centre), with the participation of around 600 delegates.
This year's theme, "Gender equality and security for women and girls in the digital age"comes as Vietnam recently hosted the opening ceremony for the signing of the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime.
According to the organizers, digital transformation creates new opportunities for learning and social connection, while exposing women and girls to forms of online harassment and violence.
Since the beginning of 2025, more than 50 cases of "online kidnapping", mainly targeting young women aged between 18 and 22, have been handled by the authorities.
Vietnam Women's Union Vice President Nguyên Thi Minh Huong highlighted efforts to create an environment free from violence and abuse, as well as a safe and friendly cyberspace. Initiatives include encouraging women to participate in the "Digital Learning for All" movement and organizing training courses dedicated to the application of AI to improve efficiency at work.
In the future, the Union's branches will continue to focus on safety in physical and digital spaces, toapply technologies to support women, and coordinate the creation of a safe cyberspace for women and children, free from online harassment.
For her part, UN Women's representative in Vietnam, Caroline Nyamayemombe, recommended strengthening the legal framework, improving the digital skills of women and girls, and promoting the use of ICTs.skills of women and girls, and mobilizing society as a whole to eliminate gender stereotypes.
The event also included an international experience-sharing session and an exhibition of communication products dedicated to gender equality.
