Morocco/Signature of a declaration of intent for twinning between Tangier and Tarragona
A declaration of intent to twin Tarragona and Tangier was signed on Thursday, with the aim of strengthening strategic cooperation between the two cities, given their shared history.
Under the terms of the agreement, initialled by the Mayor of Tangier, Mounir Laymouri, and his Tarragona counterpart, Rubén Viñuales, in the presence of the Moroccan Ambassador to Spain, Karima Benyaich, the two parties agreed to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in port management and local development.
This twinning will strengthen the bonds of friendship and the opportunities for exchange and collaboration between the two cities. It reflects the shared desire of the leaders of Tangier and Tarragona to build a common future based on dialogue and interaction between the two shores of the Mediterranean.
This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to promote decentralized cooperation and open up new prospects for partnership between Moroccan and Spanish local authorities, in the service of local development and the strengthening of human and cultural ties between the two friendly peoples, according to the two parties.
The agreement was signed on the eve of the launch of the Festival du Maroc à Tarragone, a cultural and artistic event organized by the Moroccan Consulate General in Tarragona, which aims to build a cultural bridge between the two shores of the Mediterranean.
As part of the three-day event, a conference on Morocco was held on Friday at the Rovira i Virgili University in Tarragona. Tarragona, during which emphasis was placed on the importance of academic cooperation in strengthening understanding between the two Kingdoms.
In a statement to MAP, the academic and President of the Port of Tarragona, Santiago J. Castella Surribas, said that academic and cultural cooperation between Morocco and Spain reflects the excellent relations and partnership between the two countries, adding that the organization of this conference is part of efforts to broaden the horizons of cooperation between Morocco and Spain. broaden the horizons of cooperation between Moroccan and Spanish universities through joint student exchange programs, scientific research and the sharing of academic experience.
