Côte d'Ivoire/ Fight against poverty: A forum to ensure the emergence of a development dynamic at the local level

"Gradually lift the Ivorian population out of poverty and increase the competitiveness of the national economy ..., and give the opportunity to all citizens of cities and towns to participate in the influence of the regions. This is the meaning of the first edition of the Strategic Forum held this Thursday, August 4, 2022, in the premises of the Ivorian employers' association, in Abidjan-Plateau.

This initiative of the Pan-African Institute for Economic, Social and Solidarity Development (Ipadess) is intended as a framework for exchange and dialogue between administrative and political authorities, national investors and technical partners. In order to make a critical analysis of the implementation of policies relating to communities, recommendations and also to provide guidance in the form of action plan to this effect. "The involvement, combination and coordination of the forces of all the actors of the socio-economic life will guarantee the emergence of a local development dynamism," emphasized the president of Ipadess, Kobenan Djohou.

Specifically, it is for Mr. Kobenan Djohou and his team to bring "pragmatic, innovative ideas, adapted to the realities and specific needs of each locality.

The theme of this forum, which was held to celebrate the independence of Côte d'Ivoire, was: "62 years of independence, 62 years of economic development: what are the realities in our local authorities? ".

Ipadess, which is the organizer, is in a word a Think Tank or a multidimensional think tank composed of academics, practitioners and researchers whose mission is to raise awareness among public authorities and local authorities.

The members intend to perpetuate this activity with a view to providing intellectual resources and integrated projects to promote real development of communities by 2030.

Several high-level panels were also held during this edition. One of the debates, which had as its theme: "Decentralization: a lever for economic development of territories" was led by Gervais Coulibaly, former minister and former director general of decentralization.

On this occasion, the panelists led reflections in the direction of improving the living conditions of local populations by strongly involving these same populations.
