Algeria/Covid-19: UNDP partnerships with associations to raise awareness

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP Algeria) has signed partnerships with 7 Algerian associations, within the framework of the project "European Solidarity Response to Covid-19 in Algeria" for the implementation of awareness campaigns for the population on vaccination and barrier gestures, said on Wednesday a press release from the European Union (EU) delegation.

The associations, some of which have a national character, were selected following a call for partnership launched last April and are : Scientific Association of Pharmacy Students of the University of Algiers (ASEPA), "Bariq 21" (Skikda), "El Hayet" (Algiers), "Idrak des sciences médicales" (M'sila), "Insaf" (Sétif), "Main Tendue" (Tamanrasset) as well as "Santé Sidi el Houari" (Oran), the same source said.

Under these partnerships, the "European Solidarity Response" project provides financial support to these associations for "the acquisition of protection materials and the production of awareness-raising materials targeting "the general public, more specifically vulnerable categories of the population. These campaigns will focus on the need for vaccination and the maintenance of barrier measures to fight, avoid and contain" the spread of Covid-19, it is explained.

The "European Solidarity Response to Covid-19 in Algeria" is financed by the EU to the tune of 43 million euros and implemented by UNDP Algeria, in partnership with the Ministry of Health.43 million and implemented by UNDP Algeria in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the project aims to "support government efforts to stop the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country and mitigate its effects".

It provides for an integrated response in three parts, the EU recalls, citing "the provision of medical equipment to public health structures, early detection materials and protective equipment for health care staff".

The EU also "trained some 5,000 public health managers and practitioners (doctors, nurses, technicians) in the use of equipment and in the care of patients". The press release concludes that "communication and awareness of the population, particularly through partnerships with civil society active in the field".
