France/ Twinning between Plobsheim and Altenheim
A twinning, officialized on October 22, 2022, which strengthens the cross-border cooperation of the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg
Through framework decisions, adopted in 2021, relating to cross-border, European and international relations as well as the promotion of bilingualism and regional and Rhine cultures, the Strasbourg Eurometropolis is committed to the development of a common living area at the heart of the Upper Rhine and European cross-border space.and Rhine cultures, the Strasbourg Eurometropolis is committed to the development of a common living area at the heart of the Upper Rhine cross-border area and of Europe. As a symbol of the strengthening of these cross-border links, the twinning of the municipalities of Plobsheim and Altenheim was made official on Saturday 22 October 2022.
Plobsheim and Altenheim, two cities located in the Eurodistrict Strasbourg-Ortenau, share a strong history that creates close ties between their inhabitants. For several decades, elected officials and leaders of associations have met regularly and participated in the festivities of each community, and wished to formalize their collaboration and friendship by a twinning. This twinning will allow the establishment of a partnership on various subjects such as schools, associations, the municipal youth council or the firemen.
Mobilized to promote bilingual exchanges between the inhabitants, the Eurometropole of Strasbourg is pleased with this new twinning which allows to live the experience of the cross-border on the territory. The twinning between the municipalities is an efficient instrument to make the Franco-German friendship more concrete, closer and tangible to the citizens.
Like the existing twinnings between Oberkirch (Ortenau) and Lingolsheim, Eschau and Hohberg in the Ortenau, or the couple Holtzheim-Willstätt, which celebrated its five years of twinning.This year, the Eurometropole of Strasbourg celebrated its fifth anniversary of twinning.The Eurometropole actively encourages twinning between its municipalities, especially with the municipalities of the Ortenau region, in order to further anchor and affirm our trans-Rhine metropolis in this common living area and to strengthen the links within our common territory in order to confirm, translate and reinforce the ambitions of our metropolis as a European, Franco-German and humanist capital.
