The students who are members of the Little Environmentalists in Action Club swept the twin-lane bridge and its surroundings on Saturday to preserve the environment and fight climate change.

Club members, equipped with shovels, picks and brooms, spent two hours making the two-lane bridge sanitary. Natoyoum Innocent, coordinator of the Club for Small Environmentalists in Action, says that his organization has a duty to support the fight against climate change through this small citizen action. The ecological gesture consists of cleaning the double-lane bridge that links N'Djamena and the south of the country.

According to Natoyoum Innocent, motorists are leaving sand and all kinds of dirt on the road as they pass. He points out that being an ecologist means loving nature. The current health crises require an urgent reflection on the relationship between human beings and nature in order to better prevent certain diseases. For there can be no healthy human being on a sick planet.

The Small Ecologists in Action Club (composed of students from different schools in the capital) wants to help change mentalities and has decided to take care of the environment. According to the Club, by changing habits, everyone can take action because ecology starts with changing mentalities.

"Rare are among Chadians who differentiate between biodegradable and non-degradable objects. In our dustbins, there is a whole mix. It is sometimes shameful to see us throwing banana skins or apple cores on the tar through bus windows. We are notoriously uncivil and we need to raise awareness in different ways to bring about a positive change in mentality," recommends the coordinator of the Club of Small Environmentalists in Action, Natoyoum Innocent.

Furthermore, he stresses that the current health crises call for urgent reflection on the relationship between human beings and nature in order to better prevent certain diseases.

The Club of Small Ecologists in Action was created by the Association for the Support of Disadvantaged Students (ASED). Its aim is the protection of the environment.
