The first consequence of the misinterpretation of democracy by some citizens in the 1990s is the loss of civic values of the Togolese people. What can be done to restore civic values among all Togolese? To this question, which is more than 30 years old, the ministry dedicated to citizenship training has an answer.

Since the national conference which announced the colours of the democratic era in our country, certain strange behaviours have appeared in the habits of many of our compatriots. Civic and civic values are regularly and cheerfully trampled underfoot. The uncivilization has taken on worrisome proportions, but since last August, a government-led initiative has made it possible to reverse the trend of this behaviour and to believe in the development of our country.

Since last Monday, the government has been organizing a vast national campaign to popularize citizenship training manuals. The activity, piloted by the Ministry of Human Rights, Citizenship Training and Relations with the Institutions of the Republic, is being carried out by the Ministry of the Interior. The main objective of the campaign, which is being conducted by the Ministry of Human Rights, Citizenship Training and Relations with the Republic's institutions, is being carried out throughout the national territory until 29 January next and its main objective is to inculcate the notions of citizenship in Togolese people at the grass-roots level.

More than 2,000 local and civil society actors, spread throughout the 117 communes of Togo's 39 prefectures, are involved in this campaign. The sessions, coupled with awareness-raising sessions against covid-19, will be an opportunity for trainers to explain the notions of civism and citizenship to the population. As a reminder, the guide, which is being popularized, was adopted last August at the end of a vast national process.
