The Regional Councillors were in plenary session this morning for the first time this year. On the agenda were three major economic issues: the development of fishing ports via European funds, the Region's participation in Corsair's capital and reports on the dock dues.

A satisfaction from the President of the Region, this is what we can take away from this first plenary session of the year for the Regional Council. Unanimous votes which show above all the willingness of the Regional Councillors to support the economy of Guadeloupe in a particularly difficult period.

It is clear that, for example, dock dues remain an indispensable tool for protecting local production. And it is in this sense that in 2021, the Guadeloupe Region proposes to accentuate a decrease in rates to protect certain sectors such as florists or opticians on corrective glasses. The exemption of the device also concerns the importation of goods intended for the actors of the economic development with the objective of maintaining jobs.

In fact, the regional councillors, majority and opposition, have reaffirmed their concern to maintain the system, which expires next June, even if France's will (through discussions with Europe) is to extend it until 2027.

With regard to fishing ports, they too will be able to receive investment aid of €3.8 million under thePROEPP, the Regional Plan for the Organisation and Equipment of Fishing Ports, through the EU funds provided for this purpose. Among other things, this will involve adapting this equipment to the needs of professionals.

Finally, the Guadeloupe Region unanimously voted to take a three million euro stake in Corsair's capital: one million in the holding company, and two million in the form of contributions to the current account of the Outremer Plane company which manages the company.

After this plenary session, the departmental authority, which is responsible for the archipelago's port structures, expressed its satisfaction at being able to announce that five departmental ports will benefit from European funds for their modernisation thanks to this vote by the Region.
