Togo: 22 communes in the Kara region trained in gender budgeting
In Kara, administrative managers from the region's 22 communes are taking part in a workshop on gender-sensitive planning and budgeting (PBSG), which runs until this Friday, August 1, 2025.
The work, initiated by the UNDP in collaboration with the Faîtière des communes du Togo (FCT) and the Agence nationale de formation des collectivités territoriales (ANFCT), is supported by the Ministries of Women and Finance.
The aim is to equip local planners, general secretaries and financial managers to better integrate gender equality into public policies, through equitable and targeted budget allocation.
For local authorities, this approach is considered an essential lever for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular the empowerment of women and girls.
Participants are introduced to concepts such as gender stereotypes, equity and gender budget analysis.
"A better mastery of these tools will enhance the effectiveness of local policies", emphasized Adam Moumouni, representing the FCT.
This initiative, which follows on from similar training in the Savanes region, is part of a drive for inclusive territorial governance, in a context where decentralization requires communes to be more rigorous in the allocation and management of resources.
