Chad - Switzerland/Swiss contribution of CFAF 1.5 billion to support climate resilience in Chad
The Swiss government, through its Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), has just allocated a budget of 1.5 billion FCFA to Chad to support the REPAR project. This program aims to strengthen the resilience of local communities in the face of ecological crises and improve their food security, particularly in the Batha region.
Support in the face of climatic challenges
Chad, like many other African countries, faces major environmental challenges, notably desertification, drought and flooding. The REPAR project, implemented in partnership with local stakeholders, aims to provide sustainable solutions to these challenges.
The project has multiple objectives:
- Empower communities: By providing them with the means to manage their natural resources sustainably.
- Improve food security: By developing agricultural practices adapted to climate change and diversifying sources of income.
- Strengthen local capacities: By training local players in natural resource management and the implementation of development projects.
Expected impact on the ground
This funding should make it possible to :
- Reduce people's vulnerability: By helping them to better cope with climatic shocks and natural disasters.
- Promote sustainable agricultural practices: By encouraging the use of environmentally-friendly farming techniques.
- Create jobs and income: By supporting the development of income-generating activities.
Switzerland, a long-standing partner of Chad
This new initiative is part of the long-standing bilateral cooperation between Switzerland and Chad. Switzerland has been committed to supporting development in Chad for several decades, particularly in the fields of governance, health and agriculture.
