France/La Poste has included children in one of its sustainable development initiatives in Saint-Junien.
The Saint-Junien mail distribution center (PDC) welcomed 24 children from the Saint-Victurnien day-care center as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) program.
On Thursday October 31, children took part in creative biodiversity preservation workshops at the Plateforme de distribution courrier (PDC) in Saint-Junien. The project was carried out in collaboration with the twenty postal workers at the PDC. It was selected as one of the regional projects in La Poste's national "Carbon Fund" competition, a technical and financial lever for the company's commitment to sustainable development.
The postal establishment is committed to a corporate social responsibility approach, implementing a number of resource-saving and biodiversity-enhancing initiatives, including raising awareness among the younger generation. Other projects will be launched in the coming days.
Last Thursday, the Saint-Junien mail distribution center (PDC) welcomed 24 children from the Saint-Victurnien day-care center for a day of educational and creative workshops: They took part in the construction of an insect house, under the guidance of the association "Les petites mains de demain". A way of raising awareness of the importance of auxiliary fauna in our ecosystem. Some of them were dressed up in scary costumes, but they didn't scare off the letter carriers, insects or the sun! They also helped plant several fruit trees - an apple, pear, plum and cherry. All these trees in this 800 m2 area will help to boost the presence of birds and biodiversity in general. The children took the opportunity to learn about the letter carrier's job, visit the site and hand in a letter they had written to the center, which should return thanks to the letter carrier's visit.
Beehives by 2025
Next week, PDC management plans to install a rainwater collector. This will enable water to be collected from the roof and used to flush the staff's toilets. This will cover 80% of the facility's water consumption.
Finally, in early 2025, three beehives will be installed, once again to enhance the site's biodiversity. Once the honey has been harvested, it will be given to the letter carriers and women of Saint-Junien and, depending on the quantity harvested, shared with the Saint-Victurnien day-care center and surrounding schools.
The mayors of Saint-Junien and Saint-Victurnien symbolically presented diplomas to the children. An opportunity for the mayors to learn more about the postal site's CSR initiatives.
