Belgium/Genappe signs partnership with non-profit organization Kick Belgium to better regenerate biodiversity
Regenerating biodiversity: that's what local authorities and associations in Belgium are trying to do with a series of diverse projects.
To enhance this form of ecological transition, the non-profit organization Kick Belgium is offering its support to local authorities, free of charge, for a period of three years. By bringing together and coordinating the various local players, the association develops collaborations between local authorities, farmers, associations, residents, schools and other local stakeholders. The aim is to facilitate the implementation of effective, sustainable solutions in favor of biodiversity.
In Walloon Brabant, Grez-Doiceau has already launched several promising projects, notably in the field of sustainable agriculture, thanks to the participation of farmers and environmentally conscious citizens.
The latest example of collaboration is a partnership agreement that has just been signed with the town of Genappe. Six themes will be studied: water, (sustainable) food, trees and forests, sustainable buildings, energy and mobility, and waste.
Together with the non-profit organization, the city and the players involved will identify needs, strategies and solutions to be implemented. Local initiatives will be supported or enhanced. All in a spirit of listening, exchange and collective construction.
After a three-year period of support, the non-profit organization (supported solely by patrons) will let the local players stand on their own two feet to ensure the sustainability of the projects. Among the possibilities to be discussed are the planting of additional hedges, the development of cottages and nesting boxes, and the multiplication of flower meadows.
