Cameroon: 204 billion F from the World Bank to implement decentralization

The Local Governance and Community Resilience Project, which is being implemented in Cameroon, has just received a boost in its implementation. On September 28, 2022, the World Bank, through its secular arm the International Development Association (IDA), approved a disbursement of $300 million, or 203.7 billion CFA francs, for the project.

180 Cameroonian municipalities with more than 1.5 million inhabitants will be directly affected by the project. The project aims to support the country's development objectives by strengthening community participation in local planning and governance processes; providing essential climate-resilient infrastructure; and supporting the development of local infrastructure.The project aims to support the country's development objectives by strengthening community participation in local planning and governance processes; providing communities with essential climate-resilient infrastructure; and building the capacity of decentralized local authorities to manage and implement public investments.

For proper implementation on the ground, the project will be led by the Ministry of Decentralization and Local Development (Minddevel), as the project implementation unit. It will be supported by a national steering committee with representation from the Ministries of Finance and the Economy, Planning and Regional Development.
