The objective of the Recyclerie du Plateau is to participate in the reduction of waste, to promote reuse, to support the local economy through the creation of jobs, to educate adults and children to reduce waste, but especially to reduce the consumption and waste of natural resources and energy necessary for the manufacture and transportation of products.

The Recyclerie du Plateau collects goods or equipment that are still in working order but whose owners wish to part with them. Its agents refurbish them to resell them second-hand to anyone who wishes to give them a second life.

In addition to its reuse mission, it supports the local economy through job creation, and it raises awareness and provides information on waste reduction and management. To reach this objective, the Recyclerie sets up different activities in the store such as thematic days on the 1st Wednesday of each month, workshops on waste prevention, (e.g., a workshop on waste management), and a workshop on the use of recyclable materials.s on waste prevention, (making beeswax balm, bags and gift wrapping with recycled fabrics, jewelry with recycled pods, etc.....), visits for schools and associations, etc.

The recovery of objects in a state of reuse is carried out by the Recyclerie's recovery agents and by the waste disposal centre guards in five of the seven waste disposal centres. The recovery of reused items is carried out by the Recyclerie's recycling agents and by the waste disposal centre guards in five of the seven waste disposal centres managed by the Smectom (Capvern, Trie-sur-Baïse, Nestier, Tournay, Grézian).

Voluntary contribution of items is also possible directly at the shop/workshop installed at 55, Place du Château in Lannemezan, on the days it is open: Wednesday from 9 am to 4 pm, Friday from 9 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 5 pm and Saturday from 9 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm.

Since its implementation in the summer of 2016, the Plateau Recyclerie has been a great success with over 200 tons of waste avoided, 75,000 visitors, 185,000 items sold and the creation of 5 jobs. This has led the Smectom to continue this service as well as its development through several actions such as the construction of a recovery pole that will house a Recyclerie with more space, better workshops and an integration site.
