A few days after the celebration of the World Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, the Organization for the Relief of Persons with Disabilities of Guinea (OSH-Guinea) organized this Tuesday, December 7, 2021, a roundtable around the theme: Inclusive local governance, what place for people with disabilities?

The panel, which is part of the Support Project for the Socio-Economic Integration of Young People Living with Disabilities, funded by Plan International Guinée, was held in a hotel complex in Dixinn, in the presence of several actors involved in the promotion and defense of the rights of people with disabilities.

During the discussions, several aspects were raised by the panelists, including the difficulties that people living with disabilities in Guinea face in accessing basic social services. After defining her expectations, which include taking into account the specific needs of the law and respecting the rights of people with disabilities, the president of OSH-Guinea said she was confident that all the essential points would be taken into account by the local authorities. " We discussed with the local elected officials about accessibility and respect for the rights of people living with disabilities and they promised to take into account all our difficulties in their elaboration of local programs, taking into account of course the aspects of disability. I am sure they will take it into account ," said Massoud Barry.

"We really want the authorities to take into account the specific needs of people with disabilities when developing projects for the country. Beyond mere speeches, we really want concrete actions," she added.

The head of the Empowerment and Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities section at the Ministry of Women's Promotion, Childhood and Vulnerable Persons said that this round table will allow toHe said that this round table will alert the authorities to the situation of people with disabilities, while pointing out that " it is not a single day of round table that will solve the problems " of people living with disabilities in Guinea.

At the end of the meeting, Crespin Nancy Rose, blind and deputy president of the City of Solidarity, said she is very comforted by this panel "which will include people with disabilities in local development. For her, disability is not a fatality. " We should be determined and tell ourselves that we have potentials that must be experienced with others. It is also necessary that we accept to integrate us into society ," she said to people living with disabilities in Guinea.
