The Minister of the Interior Alassane Séïdou, accompanied by members of his cabinet exchanged this Friday, at the youth house of Kandi, with the heads of units of the republican police, local elected officials and some communal councils on the theme of the co-production of security in the department of Alibori and the fight against violent extremism

For the Minister of the Interior, the new threat facing Benin and most countries in the sub-region is atypical. For the enemies are no longer on a front line for a face to face fight. "When you are in a village, a neighborhood and there is a foreigner who seeks to settle there, the owner of the house must seek to know the person, what he does where he comes from. The homeowner and the neighbours should keep an eye on this person and if there is any suspicion, inform the security forces. The enemy is in our homes, frequenting the same churches, mosques and places of worship as the people, he said.

It is therefore necessary that elected officials and the population collaborate with the security forces in order to detect the signs of radicalization that often lead to violent extremism and eventually terrorism. The department of Alibori has several border communities, some more exposed to threats than others. Hence the minister's appeal to elected officials, populations and law enforcement agencies to invest in the production of security by a frank collaboration.
