The United States launched the "Elimu ni jibu ya USAID" (Education is USAID's answer) project on Wednesday 14 April at the Annunciata School in the Archdiocese of Bukavu (South Kivu). The project aims to improve the well-being of conflict-affected populations in eastern DRC through increased access to education.

The "Elimu ni jibu ya USAID" project will be implemented through solidarity mutuals, village savings and credit associations (VSCAs), through unconditional cash transfers in which parents and teachers will participate in order to allow them to set up businesses that will allow them to pay their children's school fees.

I would like to welcome this support from the American government. We will make the necessary facilities for this project to succeed.

This project is funded by USAID to the tune of 38 million US dollars. These education services will be provided to 2,220 children, including children with disabilities and indigenous children for a period of five years.

The U.S. Ambassador to the DRC also visited Dr. Denis Mukwege's Panzi Hospital on Thursday, April 15, which treats women survivors of sexual violence and patients with gynecological conditions.
