The test phase took place at Melen Primary School in Yaoundé.

In just a few years, information and communication technologies have become indispensable and almost unavoidable tools. In almost every field of activity, they have come to facilitate practice, accessibility and understanding. This is particularly the case in the education sector and in the search for knowledge. For several years, the government has undertaken to associate ICTs in the process of dispensing knowledge, thus enabling many Cameroonians to emerge from digital illiteracy. This is done through training programs and initiatives put in place since primary school

The latest is the "Connect my school" initiative, set up by the Ministry of Basic Education and UNICEF and several other technical and financial partners. The objective of this initiative is to facilitate access to knowledge for 2,000 out-of-school disabled children, to facilitate learning for 60% of primary school pupils and finally to improve the quality and techniques of teaching for 90% of teachers. The project, which has already been carried out in the Far North region, was launched earlier this week at the Melen Primary School in the 6th district of Yaounde.

"UNICEF and other technical and financial partners have decided to build what we call here E-containers, digital hubs through which the entire community can access the information they need. The entire community can have easy access to knowledge," said Daniel Oyono, Secretary General of the Ministry of Basic Education.

For the record, the "Connect my School" project was originally set up in 2017, in two pilot schools located in remote areas of the Far North of Cameroon: one near the town of Mokolo where many Cameroonian children displaced by the conflict have found refuge, and the other at the Minawao site hosting Nigerian refugees.
