The association Label Ville and the law firm Bastille Avocats have entered into a partnership to enable Grenoble's shopkeepers to have access to workshops or legal consultations in the context of their activities. A special feature of the agreement is that the firm is a member of the association's board of directors.

A law firm on the board of directors of the Grenoble federation of commercial unions Label Ville? This is the purpose of the partnership that Christian Hoffammn, president of the association, and Thomas Bonzy, from the law firm Bastille Avocats, signed in the premises of Éco-Lab on Wednesday 14 April 2021. This is an important step for the federation, which is focusing on private partnerships while waiting for its strategy to change. And a change of presidency.

Why a law firm? "It seemed important to us to have legal help for the traders", explains Christian Hoffmann. Traders who, in the course of their business, are frequently confronted with specific legal issues, in terms of taxation, inheritance, commercial leases... Not forgetting the question of franchises or brand licences, among many others.

"We will try to build this together

The "legal" reality of the trade is all the more sensitive in times of crisis, when the successive prefectural decrees have enough to question the professionals. Concrete example? If the curfew has been extended from 6pm to 7pm, the sale of alcohol remains prohibited after 6pm. From then on, shopkeepers can stay open longer... except for wine shops. They have been told that they must continue to close at 6pm.

In practice, the partnership between the association and the firm will take the form of workshops or meetings between lawyers and traders on specific themes. Label Ville members will also be entitled to a free initial consultation with the firm. But the forms may evolve. "It's the beginning, we'll try to build it together to give the best service that traders expect," says Thomas Bonzy.

For the lawyer, the approach allows the firm to strengthen its position in the heart of the city. And as close as possible to the main stakeholders. "What is important to me is to get to know the traders almost one by one. We don't do this so that the shopkeeper thinks of us, we do it because I want to be able to think of everyone", he pleads. While conceding that the partnership also allows "to participate in the development of the firm by adding a clientele".

The approach is not totally new: Bastille Avocats is already a partner of the FNAIM and the Umih. While Label Ville has been working with the accountancy firm La Fiduciaire Parisienne for many years. But the presence of the firm on the board of directors is something new. And this will give it "additional legitimacy", concludes Thomas Bonzy.
